Self Appraisal

自我评价

 

 

Chinese state-owned enterprises have a special appraisal system. You have to write your own appraisals including your core competence and achievements, weak points and goals for next year. The self evaluation will help supervisors evaluate the employee, develop strategies for improving weak areas, and set attainable goals for the next appraisal period. Some employees may have trouble expressing themselves clearly and concisely. More often than not, you can see employees’ self-aggrandizement that exceeds their true performance. Their main activities are not elaborated in the self-evaluation summery. They never mention how they are too chatty for the workplace by sharing too many personal or off-the-point details, and even omit their consistent excuses for routine late arrivals or early departures.

中国的国有企业对于员工的评价有一个特殊的体系,你需要自己对自己进行评价,包括主要能力、所获成就、缺点还有对来年的展望。这样上级可以根据这些来评价员工,以此为依据来改正不足,并为下一个评估其制定可行的计划和指标。有很多员工总是不能清楚地表达出对自己的看法和评估。还有一些人喜欢夸夸其谈,强调自己工作成就,而个人能力则一笔带过。当然,他们也不会写自己如何在单位闲话连篇、如何迟到早退。

To help employees for self appraisal, at the beginning of a new year, the immediate supervisor will provide a performance evaluation framework for the specific employee, clarify the job purpose and priorities where necessary, specify the points of interest and action, list the objectives to achieve in a year (or the period covered by this appraisal) with the measures or standards agreed – against each comment on achievement or otherwise, with reasons where appropriate. However, established fair and transparent performance evaluation criteria are not always in place.

为了让职工能更好的做出自我评价,每年年初,上级会给员工们做一个示范性的评估工作,讲清今年的工作目标和工作重点,明确利润的目标,再列出当年要完成的任务(或者是当个评估期),这些都是在既有的标准下制定的。尽管如此,已有的成就总是和评估的标准不相符。

After the self appraisal, the immediate supervisor is responsible for conducting performance appraisals for all employees under his/her supervision. Sometimes, peer reviews are also required. Performance evaluation, which is considered to be one of the most difficult and uncomfortable tasks of supervisors, is a valuable management tool to assist in making personnel decisions including, but not limited to, training needs, merit pay adjustments, transfers, promotions, and career development. Annual performance appraisal is most common for regular staff employees. We started web-based performance appraisal last year.

自我评估完成之后,上级需要对员工的工作成绩做出评价,有时候还要和以前的工作进行对比。作为人事变动抉择的重要参照基础,对员工的成绩评估总是让上级很困扰,因为这将很大程度上决定提拔机会、奖金多少以及升职等。对于员工来说,每年的个人评价是习以为常的事情了。笔者从去年起开始使用网上评估系统。
